This study finds out the traditional aspects at the building appearance of Janpanese contemporary architecture in the 20th century. The most-used subject as the motive was a roof, which occupies 36% out of the all examples found. In cases using the overall figures of the body, 2 motives are found; Chasitzu motive 27%, and the mixed-up motive12% that shows several elements. The mixed-up motive derives their compromise from the roof, wall and base-platform of Shrine and Buddhist temple, ware house, and private house. The wall motive occupies 15%.In the rest, there’s the one expresses Japanese line applying Isigaki. This example occupied 3 %. Also there was the one adopts the formation laying over a bundle of rice straws of a reaping machine, 3% occupied. And the last case, occupies 3% also, was found to be built with a purpose to easily confront Japanese traditional esthetic, UGEN alongside the nature using light materials. In a situation with the all body put together comprimisingly or with a single style applied precisely, the old style was transformed into modern style simplifying the form and the decoration to a concise line or surface. And this case features that the material used is just modernistic. On the other hand, quoting a one point as a motive the architect exposed the pattern that repeats equal details or the pattern displays contrast details. On age table, until 1930s architects mainly focused on copying from traditional style and blending into expressions based on the overall shape of the various roofs. After that, several style had appeared till the late 70s which included whole body-summarized style and part-summarized-to-mix style. From the late 50s, Japanese traditional architecture was sectionally adopted to modernism buildings and after 70s the symbolic expression come up with simplification of line and surface as well as modernization of the material. As conventional esthetic was re-analyzed symbolic figures using metaphor started to be found after 80s, which indicates that trend went with the European Neo-rationalism. As the aspect of function of buildings, the monumental public space in large scale or performance space possesses roof-motive. Specifically Gabuki theater, where the Japanese traditional act performed all, showed the motives from roofs of Shrine and Castle. Facilities related to living were contructed mostly using neo-sukiya style, partly applying roof, wall, traditional esthetic points. Religion spaces including Buddhist temples almost extracted motives from traditional architects with same system.
