In this study a model for teaching English to elementary school students was developed using public English radio advertisements. The English teaching model was intended to discover how it could be developed and applied by a homeroom teacher for teaching English outside the regular English classes. The study was carried out with 32 sixth-grade students in an elementary school in Gyeonggido. The content of the model consisted of 15 public radio advertisements from TBS eFM, an English radio broadcast, which were variously modified and applied for teaching English to elementary students. Teaching journals, learning logs, and the interview with a native-speaking English teacher were employed to investigate the model’s effectiveness on the students’ English proficiency and influences on their affective domains. The findings include that the model using public English radio advertisements was effective for a classroom teacher to help students have more chances to exposed to English and enhance their English competence, and that the radio English advertisements could be successfully adapted to be good authentic materials for an elementary English education program. Based on the results from the study a few suggestions are made for developing and utilizing this kind of teaching model using English radio public advertisements.
