조기영어교육 현장을 통해 본 어머니들의 개별화된 욕망과 계급 불안에 대한 연구

English Education for Young Children : Individualized Desire and Class Anxiety of Mothers

본 연구는 취학이전 연령의 자녀에 대해 영어교육을 실시하고 있는 어머니들을 대상으로한 문화기술지이다. 이들이 조기영어교육에 집중하고 있는 이유를 세계화된 자본주의적 축적구조의 변화라는 연결고리에서 살펴보고자 하였다. 본 연구는 어머니들이 영어에 대하여 어떤 생각들을 가지고 있는지, 그래서 실지로 어떤 방식으로 영어교육을 지원하고 있는지에 대한 미시적인 이야기들과 함께 그것이 거시적인 차원과 어떻게 연결되어 있는지를 보고자 하였다. 연구 결과는 어머니들이 공적 교육에 대한 신뢰와 기대를 상실하면서 개인적인 교육에 대한 욕망이 대두되었으며 그것은 글로벌 엘리트 계급으로의 이동이냐 아니면 계급하락으로의 이동이냐에 대한 기대와 불안이 만나는 지점이기도 하였음을 보여주고 있다.

This research is an ethnography about mothers educating their young children. This research intended to inspect the reasons concentrating english education for young children of mothers by connecting globalization and so explain what they were thinking about english education and actually in what way supporting, and how these narratives was connected with globalization. Data was collected by depth interviews with 9-mothers educating english for their young children in defferent way and 2-staffs at english institute. Research shows mothers' desire of Individualized education by losing expectations of public education and this is a point of the conflict between desire and anxiety for class change.
