유아와 함께 하는 연구의 교육적 의미

The Educational meaning of conducting research with children

포스트모던 관점에서 유아는 자신의 삶에 대한 식견이 있는 유능한 전문가이며 그들과의 상호작용을 통해서 가장 잘 얻어질 수 있는 지식, 관점, 관심을 가진 존재로 인식된다. 최근 연구물들은 유아를 의존적이며 무능한 존재로 바라보던 관점에서 타인에게 영향을 미치는 사회적 배우, 참여자, 공동 연구자로 바라보기 시작했다. 이제 연구자들은 유아들에 대한 혹은 유아들을‘대상’으로 하는 연구가 아닌‘유아들과 함께 하는 연구’에 대해 관심을 갖기 시작했다. 유아들과 함께 하는 연구의 의미는‘성인이 유아들의 이해의 세계와 자신의 이해의 세계에 들어가려고 노력하면서 연구계획이 연구 경험을 통해 수정될 수 있다’는 것이다. 본 문헌연구에서는 유아들과 함께 하는 연구방법을 논의하기 위해 유아와 함께 하는 연구의 윤리적 고려사항, 유아들이 찍은 사진을 활용하는 자료수집방법 및 실제 연구 사례를 살펴봄으로서 진정한 의미에서 유아와 함께 하는 연구를 위한 제언을 하고자 한다.

From postmodern perspective, children are considered as experts who have their own views and knowledge gained best by interactions with them. Children's voices have not often found their way into research. Concerns about their powers of communication and the ethical difficulties inherent when working with children have restricted their participation. However, there have been a general move in social research toward the respectful and inclusive involvement of children in the research process. The meaning of ‘research with children’ is that adult researcher revise their research plan while they try to the world of children's and their own understanding. This review paper reflects some ethical consideration, the use of children's photographs as new research methods. The paper proses that by adopting a flexible, reflective stance, researchers can learn much from children.
