글로컬 서사에 대한 고찰

A Study on the Glocal Narrative

본 논문의 목적은 세계화, 즉 글로벌라이제이션(globalization)이 문화 영역에 있어 문화상품 시장잠식과 같은 경제적 요소뿐만 아니라 문화정체성에까지 그 폐해를 미치고 있다는 전제에서, 그 대안으로서의 글로컬(Glocal) 개념의 가능성을 탐구하는 것이다. 미국을 위시한 강대국 위주의 세계화가 문화정체성에 영향을 미치는 메커니즘은 문화코드의 변형과 왜곡을 통해서다. 문화정체성은 하나의 로컬문화가 가진 고유성과 관련을 맺고 있으며, 이는 그 지역 거주자들이 공유 하고 있는 미의식이나 예술적 취향, 미학적 표현 관습 등을 포함한다. 하나의 로컬 문화코드가 여타의 지역에 지나친 영향을 미친다면 각 로컬의 취향은 획일화되기 쉬울 것이며, 이는 세계화의 폐해로 지목되는 일방향성, 균질화와 같은 맥락 이다. 본 논문은 그 사례로서 서사체 문화콘텐츠의 담론 양식을 탐구하고 있다. 서사체의 담론 양식은, 예를 들어 우리의 가면극이나 서구의 발레나 오페라, 일본의 가부키와 중국의 경극 등에서 보듯, 문화권으로서의 국가 정체성과 맞닿아 있고 국민을 그 지역성 안에 단일한 문화코드로 묶어 문화정체성을 유지하는 중요한 역할을 하는 것이다. 특히 사례로 들고 있는 할리우드 영화는 이런 다양한 로컬 담론에 익숙한 문화코드를 균질하게 바꾸어 놓았다. 그 결과, 할리우드 영화에서 추구하는 이야기 전달방식, 즉 ‘고전적 할리우드’에 준하는 서사체 담론양식이 이야기 소구에 대한 로컬 거주자들의 문화코드가 되었고, 이를 통해 균질화된 담론양식이 지배적인 위치에 서게 되었으며, 서사체에 대한 로컬문화코드가 심각하게 훼손된 것이다. 이 연구는, 여백의 미와 같은 동양적 예술 가치를 드러내는 일본 만화의 담론을 사례로 점검하면서, 글로벌과 로컬의 갈등을 극단으로 몰고 가지 않으면서 각 지역의 문화정체성을 보존하는 글로컬 서사 개념을 심화하였다. 이를 통해 글로컬 개념에 대한 연구가 시장분석과 마케팅 방법론을 벗어나 문화정체성, 문화적 무의식까지 확장될 수 있음을 보여주었다.

This article aims to scrutinize the new conception of glocalization which has been emerged as a antidote of globalization. In the cultural sector, the damage of globalization reaches not only the local cultural markets, but the cultural identity of local people in the world. The cultural identity of specific local area is connected to the local culture code which includes indigenous aesthetic criterion, artistic taste, and convention of expression, etc. Globalization of the superpowers influenced the local cultural identities by deforming and mogenizing the indigenous culture codes of local people. The local narratives such as Gamoun-geug in Korea, Gabuki in Japan, and Ballet in the Western, which represent the cultural identities of each cultural communities, are examples of culture code of narrative or narration of the locals. Globalization of culture code of narrative homogenized local narratives. The Hollywood films are striking examples. That is to say that, the narration style of 'classical Hollywood' as a specific local narrative substituted, homogenized, and, thus, harmed almost every local culture code of narrative of the world. This article argues that local narrative which is exampled as Manga which represents the asian mode and value of 'the aesthetic of blankness' in its narrative style, can modifies and interrelates the tension between glocal and local, and demonstrates that the study on the conception of 'glocal' can be extended, beyond economy and marketing studies, to the humanities' problem of cultural identity.
