This study examines the effects of integrated reading and writing instruction using English newspapers as instructional materials. Furthermore, this study compares the development of two high- and low-level students' reading and writing skills. This study was conducted on 21 sixth grade students for 13 weeks. Thirteen reading materials with a variety of topics were selected from The Kids Times. The subsequent series of newspaper-based class activities were organized and taught by a teacher. Then, two contrasting levels of students' works were chosen to be analyzed and compared for qualitative analysis. The data was collected from pre- and post- test assessments, frequent in-depth interviews, and the teacher's journal. This study revealed that using children's English newspapers has made a significant difference in students' reading and writing abilities. The two students' written works have also shown a remarkable improvement as a result of integrated reading and writing instruction. In addition, there was a highly significant positive correlation between students' reading and writing abilities. These findings imply that a well-designed set of classroom activities using diverse English newspaper materials can provide students with effective learning opportunities that improve reading and writing skills.
