영어 아동영화의 코퍼스 기반 초등영어 어휘 및 연어 분석과 자료집 개발

An analysis of elementary school English vocabulary and collocations based on the corpus from the children movies in English and the development of a practical source book.

This study aims to develop a meaningful vocabulary and collocation source book based on the corpus from children movies in English and the elementary school English vocabulary. To achieve this goal, the selected 10 children's films were compared with high frequency words from the mass corpus such as ANC, BNC, Brown Corpus, COLT and elementary school English vocabulary. The source book of vocabulary and collocations has been developed based on the vocabulary and examples from the movie scripts. The major findings from the study are as follows. First, frequent words on English-speaking children's movies were not significantly different with common words used by ordinary native speakers. Second, there were high correlations between English-speaking children's movies and essential basic vocabulary of elementary school curriculum. Third, there were about 460 words which could be helpful for students in the movie corpus coinciding with essential basic vocabulary of elementary school curriculum and the native corpus. In addition, about 300 collocations could be found from the data. Fourth, the sentences from all the investigated movies were composed within six words. So in terms of the complexity of the sentences, they could be regarded as suitable for elementary school students. Considering these findings it is possible to draw a conclusion that the vocabulary and the collocations well selected from English-speaking children's movies could be used as effective English language materials. Based on the results from the study some suggestions are also made.
