인식적 추론의 정당성 문제

On the Problem of Epistemic Inference

본고는 현대 인식론자 로렌스 봉쥬르가 최신의 책을 통해 제기한 논증과 추론의 인식적 추론의 정당화 문제를 평가하고, 이 흥미로운 인식론 및 논리 철학적 문제를 새로운 관점에서 해결하자면, 논증과 추론에 대한 새로운 존재론적 접근법이 필요하다는 것을 논증한다. 논문은‘논증’과‘추론’에 대한 전통적인 집합론적인 정의와 이해가 논증 및 추론의 동일성에 관련된 문제점을 내포한다는 것을 지적하고, 그 대안으로 구조화된 명제로서의 논증과 추론이란 대안을 제시한다. 그리고 이런 존재론적 이론을 배경으로 추론의 정당화 문제도 정합론과 토대론이란 두 가지 기본 방향의 이론이 성립할 수 있음을 밝힌다.결론으로 논문은 인식적 추론의 정당성 문제가 선험적 인식과 정당성 문제에 대한 현대의 철학적 이론에 중요한 함축이 있음을 논증한다.

In his recent book, In Defence of Pure Reason, Laurence BonJour, a famed American epistemlogist raises an interesting philosophical problem involving argument in general or epistemic inference in particular, which I dubbed 'the problem of epistemic inference': In this paper, I critically review his proposals and solution to this problem. I argue that to see properly the philosophical implications of this problem, we need to abandon the standard conception of 'argument' and 'inference, which was mainly shaped by modern set-theortical models. Once this ontological issue is settled, I argue, indeed the problem poses an important and interesting epistemogical issue. I explain and delineate two possible solutions to this problem and try to defend my own solution.In conclusion, I tried to show this problem has far-reaching epistemogical consequences with regard to issues, such as, the viability of a priori justification and knowledge in general, role of reason in the realm of a priori knowledge.
