해석학에 대한 몇 가지 의문점

Some Questions for the Hermeneutics

해석학 관련 논문들, 이론서들은 부지기수지만 대개가 ‘해석 가능성’이란 이상적 전제를 받아들인 상태로 논의를 전개하고 있는 것이 현실이다. 이를 받아들이면 슐라이어마허에서처럼 ‘해석학의 보편성 요구’나 일반 해석학 등이 가능해야 할 것이다. 딜타이가“자연과학에 비견할 만한 과학성”을 해석학의 기준으로 제시했던 것도 동일한 맥락에서였을 것이고, 하이데거의 해석학의‘존재론화’도 이와 같은 전제로 출발하고 있음이 분명하다. 그러나 필자가 보기에 ‘해석 가능성’내지‘보편적 해석’은 해석학의 이데올로기 내지 함정이지, 결코 해석학의 이론적·방법론적 맥락에서의 든든한 후원자가 될 수 없다고 판단된다. 왜냐하면, i) 이는 무엇보다도 언어·문화적 특수성을 고려하지 않은 주장이고, ii) 해석의 순간에 일어날 수 있는 문제들을 전혀 고려하지 않은 일종의 당위적 요청에 다름 아니기 때문이다. 그런데도 해석 과정에서 문제로 직면할 수밖에 없는 이와 같은 현실은 간과한 채, 해석학도들은 이론 일변도(즉, 이론 종속적인)의 글들만 양산하고 있으며, 정작 글쓴이(저자)가 지금‘무엇’을‘해석’을 하고 있는지 반성하거나, 그것이 해석 가능성을 전제로 한 작업인지 아니면 해석 불가능성을 해명하려는 작업인지 전혀 고민하지 않는다. 즉 자신의 주관적인, 고유한, 창의적이며 자유로운 해석 공간을 마련할 생각을 아예 하지 않는다. 이런 경우라면, 해석은 문자 그대로의 해석도, 주석도, 종국엔 아무 것도 아닐 것이다.

Today, the theses and the theoretical books, that are related to' Hermeneutics', are innumerable. But most of those are proceeding their discussion by the assumption of ideal premise, the 'possibility of interpretation'. If we accept such a tendency, we can possibly admit the 'Demand of Hermeneutic universality' or the General Hermeneutics' as Schleiermacher said. Dilthey may propose the nature of science being comparable to natural science as a standard of Hermeneutics under such circumstances as these. And it is certain that Heidegger's ontologization of Hermeneutics is also started from same premise. But I think the 'possibility of interpretation' or the 'general Hermeneutics' is either a ideology or a trap of Hermeneutics, and theoretically or methodologically it cannot be a supporter of Hermeneutics. It is because i) it doesn't consider the specific characteristic of language and culture, ii) disregard problems that can be arosen at the moment of interpreting. Nevertheless, scholars of Hermeneutics overlook this situation, moreover they produce only articles dependant on that theory. They do not think over what the author is interpreting now. They do not agonize whether that work starts at the base of the possibility of interpretation, or explains the impossibility of interpretation. That is to say, they have no intention to produce their subjective, special, free space of interpretation. Such a kind of case the interpretation is not a literal interpretation, nor annotation. Finally it will be nothing.
