철학적으로 가르침(philosophically teaching)에 관한 몇가지 제안

Methodology of teaching Philosophy

철학교육(teaching Philosophy)는 말 그대로 철학을 가르치는 것이다. 그러나 여기에서 철학이란 텍스트 안에 놓여 있는 철학에서의 여러 학파나 철학자들의 이론을 지칭하는 것이 아니다. teaching Philosophy에서 Philosophy를 굳이 풀어내자면, 영어로는 doing Philosophy이며 독일어로는 philosophieren이다. 즉 이는 학문적 혹은 지식적 철학을 교육하는 것이 아니라, 철학함을 교육한다는 말이다. 그러나 학습자들은 무엇을, 어떻게 하는 것이 철학함이라는 것을 모르고 있다. 그럼에도 가르치는 이는 무턱대고 철학교육이란 철학함을 가르치는 것이라고 이야기 한다. 따라서 철학교육을 말하기에 앞서 제기되어야 할 것은 가르치는 이가 얼마나 철학함에 대하여 이해하고 있는 가를 살피는 일이다. 모든 교육에는 가르치는 이와 배우는 이가 있다. 그렇다면 철학교육에서 중요한 것은 가르치는 이가 철학 학습에 임하는 태도이다. 나는 기존의 철학교육 방법론에서 진정한 철학교육의 대안을 찾을수 없다고 생각한다. 따라서 나는 철학교육에 있어 철학적으로 가르침(philosophically teaching)을 제안한다. 철학교육은 그야말로 열린 교육이어야 한다. 자유롭게 열린 교육 안에서 학습자는 비로소 스스로 자기 자신과 세계를 대할 수 있으며, 이를 통하여 자기 스스로의 지평을 마련할 수 있고 그 지평을 넓혀갈 수 있는 것이다. 열린 교육의 장을 펼쳐내는 것은 가르치는 이가 우선 해내야 할 일이다. 열린 교육으로서 철학교육은 ‘놀이’를 요청한다. 철학적 놀이는 학습자들이 자신의 눈으로 본 세계를 자신의 마음으로 이해하도록 할 수 있다. 철학적으로 가르치는 것은 강요하지 않는 놀이를 통하여 학습자들이 스스로 생각하고, 스스로 문제를 해결 할 수 있는 힘을 길러내 줄 수 있다.

The education of Philosophy means ‘teaching Philosophy’. But the term‘Philosophy’ here does not refer to various schools or philosophers studied within the philosophical text. The term can be defined as ‘doing Philosophy’ in English and ‘philosophieren’ in German. That is; it’s not an education of scholastic or intellectual philosophy, but an teaching of ‘doing philosophy’. However, the learners do not know what ‘doing philosophy’ is, let alone how it’s done. Nevertheless, the teacher emphasizes that ‘teaching Philosophy’ should teach ‘doing philosophy’. Therefore, before further discussing ‘teaching Philosophy’, a clarification of how well the teacher must understand ‘doing philosophy’ is required. All teaching consists of learners and teachers. The essence of teaching Philosophy lies in the teacheror’s approach toward Philosophical studies. I’m ascertained that the present Methodology of teaching Philosophy does not provide an alternative for genuine teaching Philosophy. Hence I propose the ‘philosophically teaching’ method. teaching Philosophy should be an open education. Under the liberal and open approach, learners will finally be able to face themselves and the world, and this way, they might break open and expand their own horizons. It is up to the teachers to provide the field for an open education. To become an open education, teaching Philosophy needs to adopt‘plays’. Philosophical plays can lead learners to view the world with their own minds. ‘Philosophically teaching’ can train learners to think and solve problems on their own through unforced plays.
