선험현상학적 ‘지역학’의 이념과 과제

The Idea of Transcendental Phenomenological 'Regional Studies' and its Tasks : A Consideration of Husserl's Phenomenology

E. 후설의 현상학은 철저한 주체성의 철학으로 여겨져 현대의 많은 철학자들은 여러모로 후설의 현상학을 비판하며 자신의 철학적 영감을 얻은 것이 사실이다. 그러나 후설의 현상학을 조금 더 면밀히 살펴보면 ‘주체성’이란 현상학의 전개과정 중 한 단계-그러나 매우 중요한 단계-에 해당할 뿐, 그 자체로서 현상학의 핵심주제나 동기가 되지는 못한다. 현상학적 탐구의 중추가 되는 동기는 다름 아닌 아무런 전제나 편견을 두지 않고 ‘주어진 사태 자체로( Zuden Sachen selbst!)’ 다가가 그 현상을 포착하려는 데에 있는 것이다. 이렇듯‘주어진 사태 자체로’ 다가가 그 현상을 포착하려는 현상학의 여정(旅程)은 초기 존재론적 현상학에서 시작하여 중기 선험적 주체성의 현상학을 거쳐 후기 생활 세계의 현상학에 이르며 가장 직접적으로 주어진 ‘사태’로서 후설은 생활세계를 발굴한다. 여기서 한발자국 더 나아가 우리는 후설이 말하는 생활세계를 ‘지역’으로 해석하고 후설 후기의 생활세계현상학을 ‘선험적 지역현상학’으로 해석하고자 한다. 후설의 현상학적 발전상(上) 가장 완숙한 형태로서 등장하는 ‘선험적 지역현상학’은 분명 일종의 지역학이면서도 철학적/현상학적으로 견고해진 지역학의 연구방법으로서 모든 보편적, 절대적 학문과 예술의 선험적 근간으로서 ‘지역’을 발굴하고 들추어내는 제1의 근본철학 혹은 가장 근원적인 학문비판론인 것이다. 이제 ‘선험적 지역현상학’은 후설의 현상학이 철저한 주체성의 철학이라는 오명을 깨뜨리며 실제 수많은 지역 혹은 지역문화들을 조우(遭遇)하면서도 선험적 (상호)주체성으로 구성되는 그 선험적 근간을 파헤치는 존재론적인 동시에 선험(초월)적인 연구방법임이 드러난다. 본 논고에서 우리는 보편/절대적인 학문이라 여겨지는 ‘기하학’을 예로 들어 ‘선험적 지역현상학’을 적용하여 ‘기하학’이 지금의 보편/절대적인 학문으로서 가능하게 된 여러 선험적인 지역근간들을 밝히는 작업을 짧게나마 감행해보고자 하며, 끝으로 ‘선험적 지역현상학’과경험과학으로서 기타 여러 유형의 지역학들을 간단하게나마 비교, 대조해보고자 한다.

E. Husserl's phenomenology has been regarded exclusively as a philosophy of subjectivity and therefore lots of modern philosophers obtained their philosophical clues and inspiration criticizing Husserl's phenomenology in a way or another. However, looking into the rubric of Husserl's phenomenology closely, we discover that 'subjectivity' takes up only a stage - an important stage, though - in the development of Husserl's phenomenology and cannot be identified with the central theme or motive of phenomenology itself. The central motive in phenomenological investigations lies in returning 'to the things themselves( Zu den Sachen selbst!)' without any presuppositions and prejudice and grasping the immediately pre-given phenomena. On the way of phenomenology to return 'to the things themselves' and grasp the immediately pre-given phenomena, we start from the early ontological phenomenology, pass through the middle transcendental phenomenology and finally arrive at the later life-world phenomenology. At this point, Husserl discovers the life-world as the most immediately pre-given. Advancing a step further, we are going to interpret Husserl's life-world as 'region' and develop the life-world phenomenology in the later Husserl into a 'transcendental- phenomenological regional studies.' 'Transcendental-phenomenological regional studies' that emerges as the most full-fledged form of phenomenology in Husserl's development is surely a kind of regional studies, but it is a methodology of regional studies that is thoroughly criticized and consolidated philosophically and phenomenologically. It is surely the first philosophy or the most fundamental critique of science that divulges 'regions' as the transcendental foundations of all the universal, absolute arts and sciences. Now, 'transcendental-phenomenological regional studies' destroys the stigma that Husserl's phenomenology is only a philosophy of subjectivity and turns out to be an ontological/transcendental methodology of regional studies that not only tries to encounter countless 'regions' and 'regional cultures' but also divulge their transcendental foundations constituted by the transcendental co-subjects. Then, in the present paper, we will take 'geometry' for example and apply our 'transcendental-phenomenological regional studies' to 'geometry' in order to divulge the various transcendental 'regional' foundations that have made 'geometry' possible as a universal/ absolute science. Finally, we will briefly compare and contrast our 'transcendental-phenomenological regional studies' with other types of regional studies as empirical sciences.
