노동조합이 기업의 기술혁신활동에 미치는 영향

The Effect of Labor Union on Firm's Technology Innovation

본 연구는 노동조합이 기업의 기술혁신활동에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석한 것이다. 구체적으로 기술혁신의 대용변수(proxy variable)로 특허출원건수로 하여 노동조합의 설립유무, 전체 종업원수 대비 노동조합 가입인원수, 그리고 노동조합의 가입성향에 따라 기술혁신에 미치는 영향을 살펴본 것이다. 실증분석결과 노동조합이 설립된 기업의 기술혁신활동은 그렇지 않은 기업보다 더 낮은 것을 보여, 노동조합이 조합원들의 고용안정 등 이익을 위해 기업의 기술혁신활동에 부정적인 영향을 미치고 있음을 보이고 있다. 그리고 전체 종업원 중 노동조합 가입비율이 높을수록 기업의 기술혁신활동이 낮은 것으로 나타난 반면, 가입한 노동조합의 성향에 따른 기업의 기술혁신 활동에 대한 차이는 유의적인 결과를 보여 주지 못 하고 있다. 이러한 결과는 기업이 기술혁신활동에 대한 투자의사결정을 하는 여러 가지 동기 중에서 노동조합이 다른 하나의 요인으로 작용하는 것을 보여준데 연구의 의미가 있을 것으로 생각된다.

In this paper, we empirically analysis the effect of labor union on firm's technology innovation. Concretely, we use the amount of patents application as a proxy variable of technology innovation to investigate the effect of unionization, the total unionized numbers of people and union join tendency on firm's technology innovation. Results, the technology innovation in unionized firms is lower than un-unionized firms and the higher unionized number of people the more negative effect on firm's technology innovation is shown. Final, the effect of union join tendency on firm's technology innovation is not found. In these results, this paper shows labor union is one of the most important factors which affect directly investment decision of managers in firm's technology innovation.
