Sensibility can be defined as a shared emotion and its mode of presentation. Sensibility studies is orienting for the historical moment to produce and reproduce the social sensibility and its structured effects. In the Korean modern history, one of the important sensibilities would be the endured sadness or grief. If the sadness as an emotion would be presented in the process of everyday life, by wailing and sigh, the sadness as a sensibility would be more deposited in deep level of collective mentality and not be visualized on the formal sphere. Sadness as a historical sensibility have been framed in the colonialism, civil war, and cold war-divided regime of modern Korea. However, the diverse types of sadness sensibility, have been originated from the necropolitics including massacre and social vegetatification (make somebody vegetative state). Therefore, the endured sadness by the macro historical forces, should be mourned in the proper ritual process. It should be more clarified the reproduction mechanism of sensibility in minority groups, and explained the interrelationships among mentality, historical memory and sensibility by the expanded studies of social sensibility. This upcoming issue of social sensibility should be approached in more comprehensive and interdisciplinary cooperation.
