슬픈 ‘음악’ 의 근대성

Modernity of Musical Laments

슬픔‘음악’은 근대의 산물이다. 슬픔이 음악적으로 표현되기 위해서는 말과 음악 사이의 섬세한 관계 형성, 삼화음의 성립과 불협화음의 체계적 사용, 조성의 성립과 운영 방법에 대한 합의 음악적 은유와 상징 체계의 성립 따위의 복잡한 역사적 과정을 거쳐야만 했다. 이러한 과정을 거쳐 17세기 초에 와서야 비로소 슬픈‘음악’이 만들어 지며 몬테베르디의 “님프의 라멘토” (1738년 출판)는 그 첫 번째 예라고 할 수 있다. 이 작품은 가사와 음악 간의 관계를 통해 근대성의 발현이 음악에 미친 영향을 고스란히 반여하고 있다.

The musical representation of sorrow is a creature of modernity. Before 17th century, the musical expression of a certain emotion heavily depended on its texts. The first musical expression of purly musical expression of sorrow is found in Monteverdi's “Lamento della Ninfa”(published in 1738). This work represents the historical change of the relationship between music and text and reflects the process of modernization.
