제조유연성과 제조성과 간의 인과관계에 관한 연구

The causal relationship between manufacturing flexibilities and manufacturing performance: an empirical study focusing on the moderating effect of demand uncertainty

본 연구의 목적은 서로 다른 층위에 속한 제조유연성들 간의 인과관계와 이러한 다양한 제조유연성이 기업성과가 아닌 제조성과에 미치는 인과관계를 실증적으로 규명하는 것이다. 또한 수요불확실성이 이러한 인과관계에 어떤 조절효과를 미칠수 있는지 확인하는 것 역시 본 연구의 주요한 목적이라고 할 수 있다. 이러한 연구목적에 따라 본 연구에서는 자동차사업과 전기·전자 산업에 속한 부품협력사들을 대상으로 광범위한 설문조사를 진행하였고, 구조방정식 모형을 이용하여 관련 연구가설들을 검정하였다. 그 결과, 기능유연성은 상품 관련 제조유연성인 물량유연성과 혼합유연성은 물론, 직접적으로 제조성과에도 긍정적인 영향을 미치고 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 수요불확실성이 높아지는 상황에서는 기능유연성과 혼합유연성이 제조성과에 미치는 긍정적인 영향이 더욱 강화된다는 사실도 확인하였다. 반면 예상과 달리 수요불확실성이 높아지면 물량유연성이 제조성과에 미치는 긍정적인 영향이 억제된다는 사실도 확인하였다. 본 연구는 서로 다른 층위의 제조유연성을 동시에 고려하여 다차원적 속성을 측정하였으며, 수요불확실성이라는 조절변수를 감안하여 제조유연성과 제조성과 간의 인과관계를 종합적으로 규명했다는 의의를 지니고 있다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the interrelationships among manufacturing flexibilities which belong to different levels and the causal relationship between manufacturing flexibilities and manufacturing performance. The examination of the moderating effect of demand uncertainty on this causality is also a main aim of this research. For these goals, we conducted survey research targeting parts suppliers in the automotive and electronics industries and then test several research hypothesis through structural equation model. As a result, functional flexibility has a positive influence on not only two types of product-related flexibilities - volume and mix flexibilities - but also manufacturing performance directly. In addition, with increasing demand uncertainty, the positive impact of functional and mix flexibilities on manufacturing performance can be strengthened. Contrary to our expectation, in the state of high demand uncertainty, the positive impact of volume flexibility on manufacturing performance can be suppressed. In sum, considering several manufacturing flexibilities in different levels, this study measured multi-dimensional attributes of manufacturing flexibility and identified both the causal relationships between manufacturing flexibilities and manufacturing performance and the moderating effect of demand uncertainty.
