A Study on Government Policy for Ship Management Industry: Focusing on Ship Management Companies

The Ship Management Industry(SMI) has become an effective method for reducing operation expense of shipping companies which were suffering under the world-wide continuous recession. In order to boost up the SMI, the Korean government has been pursuing various policies. The suitability and priority of government policies, however, were not successfully analyzed. In this respect, the aim of this study is to evaluate 13 government policies and suggest their weight scores and priorities from an industrial point of view. For weighing the factors, the fuzzy methodology was adopted. As the results, 'supporting the education program for SMI (0.93)' is selected as the most important policy, and 'reduction and exemption from earned income tax for seafarer (0.92)‘ and 'enlargement of training program for ship officer (0.90)’ are followed.
