중학교 영어회화수업 강화를 위한 학교 영어교육 과정분석 및 효과성과 만족도에 관한 연구

A study on the effectiveness of English speaking programs and a degree of satisfaction in Korean middle schools

The purposes of the study are to identify the ways 8 Korean secondary schools could improve teaching of the speaking skills and to investigate the effectiveness of the program and the views of participants about English language programme in secondary schools. This research was carried out from March of 2009 to February of 2011 with the grant of MEST (Ministry of Education, Science, and Education). 2,645 students, 91 teachers, and 1,629 parents participated in this research to show their attitudes towards English language curriculum. This research shows that eight schools provided students with a variety of English language classes such as videoconferencing classes, daily practical English learning programs, English zone facilities, English camps, and other environments for English use. In addition, analyses of data revealed that the majority of responses from three groups turned out to be positive, although in a varying degree per group. However, this study indicates that operating diverse and effective English curriculum may lead students to be engaged in effective English learning. The paper has suggested possible ways to make English speaking curriculum more effective in various areas such as designing of the English language programs, the construction of multi-media assisted language learning facility and development of teaching methods.
