Developing teaching materials and textbook analysis for improving recognition of English phonological phenomena

The aim of this study is to develop methodology on recognition of English phonological phenomena in textbook. With a focus on materials used in textbook, this study suggests some ideas and applies them in making a new material against problems current textbooks have in common. To make sure its feasibility in textbook, an experiment has been conducted with materials of textbook and of newly developed one. Two groups of a total of 27 low-level highschool students participated in the experiment for 10 minutes each of 4 periods of the lesson. The findings of the experiment show that recognition of both groups were increased to some degree, but that there was no significant difference on effectiveness of both materials. This shows possibility of applying suggestions in newly developed material to textbook. This paper also discusses implications for future research and limitations of the study.
