A Study on Design Development of a Speaker Enclosure

인간의 감성을 자극하는 중요한 요소인 소리가 우리의 일상생활에 미치는 영향은 대단하다. 축음기가 발명되면서 시작된 오디오 시스템은 현대산업사회에 이르러 눈부신 발전을 이루었으며 현재의 오디오 시스템은 기술의 발전과 함께 사용 환경에 따라 다양하게 세분화되어 사용 되고 있고 최근에는 단순히 소리를 재생하는 장치에서 벗어나 사용자의 감성을 만족시키는 형태로까지 발전하고 있다. 오디오 시스템 중에서도 직접적으로 소리를 발생시키는 스피커는 음향적 기능은 물론 인테리어와의 조화 역시 중요한 요소로 자리 잡고 있다. 이런 스피커의 외형을 이루는 인클로저(Enclosure)의 디자인 개발로 청각적 음향과 함께 형태에 대한 시각적 감성까지 만족시키는 디자인을 개발하고자 했으며, 인클로저의 디자인 콘셉트는 자연의 이미지를 응용하며 목재가 갖는 천연의 부드러운 질감을 더해 사용자의 감성을 충분히 만족시킬수 있도록 하였다. 디지털 장비가 보편화되고 컴퓨터그래픽의 발전과 함께 변화한 디자인 프로세서를 이용하여 제품을 계획하고 구체화 시키는 과정에서도 작업을 정확하게 수치화 할 수있으며 이 수치들을 바탕으로 CNC 제작기법을 사용하여 다품종 소량생산 및 생산제품의 정밀함과 동일규격의 대량생산이 가능하도록 했다. 이러한 디자인 개발과정을 통해 과도한 장식과 복잡한 형태를 배제한 자연의 이미지 콘셉트(Concept)의 인클로저가 실내의 어느 공간에 놓여도 미적효과를 기대할 수 있으며 음향기기로서 사용하지 않을 경우에도 자체의 형태만으로도 인테리어적 효과를 기대할 수 있다는 결론을 얻을 수 있었다.

Sound as an important element which stimulates human senses has a great influence in our life. Audio systems which began with invention of a gramophone have achieved a great development in modern industrial society and have been subdivided into various areas according to environments where they are used. Recently, they have developed to the degree they satisfy user's emotion beyond just reproduction of sound. Of audio systems, the speaker which directly generates sound is an important element for interior design as well as sound. Therefore, this study aims to design a speaker enclosure which can satisfy visual and acoustic senses. For the purpose, the study designed an enclosure to satisfy user's emotion by using a natural image and adding soft texture to wood. With development of digital equipment and computer graphics, a process of planning and specifying an enclosure can be valued numerically and with a use of CNC technique based on the numerical values, precise and equal-sized enclosures can be mass-produced. Through such design development process, it is expected that enclosures with natural image by excluding excessive ornaments and complex shapes can have aesthetic effects and they can go well with interior design although they are not used as sound systems.
