희곡의 놀이 기원과 본질

Origin and Essence of Drama as Play

The oriental name of play higok(희곡, 戱曲) is meaning to dance and ballad. Ballad dance was a single mode in ancient times. That was the original form of play(ludens), of which music, dance and poetry were separated from. J. Huizinga considered music and dance as the innocent and perfect form of play. In the poetry, as the elements of musical recitation was disappeared, the lyric and epic lost their function as the play. But higok is the only one that maintaining the spirits and forms of play. Like as the core elements of ballad dance are rhythm and harmony, that of higok is yullyeo(율려, 律呂). Yullyeo contains of kulsin(굴신, 屈伸), which is action of bending and stretching, and hoheup(호흡, 呼吸), which is occurred in expiration and inspiration, in other words, it combines eumyang(음양, 陰陽), which is positive and negative rhythm. From these, energy of life known as kwisin(귀신, 鬼神) and jeonggi(정기, 精氣) is made. In order for higok to have competitive power for standing against cinema and TV drama, yullyeo has to urgently be reconsidered. Therefore, when spirits of play are pursued, higok will be alived.
