Multiple adventitious shoots were regenerated from the internodal stolon explants of Todd’s Mitcham peppermint (Mentha piperita) and Scotch spearmint (M. spicata) on Murashige-Skoog (MS) basal medium supplemented with thidiazuron (TDZ), 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) and а-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA). The best protocol suited for mint regeneration was MS medium supplemented with 2.0 ㎎/L TDZ and regeneration efficiency was 81% in half cutted stolon pieces of Todd’s Mitcham peppermint. Half cutted stolons were better than half cutted stems and non-cutted stolons in regeneration frequency. On these regenerative system with TDZ and half cutted stolons, nearly all explants of the Todd’s Mitcham peppermint cultivars regenerated numerous plantlets, but less than 50% of the explants of Scotch spearmint regenerated several plantlets. Depending on the medium used, multiple plantlets were regenerated from explants of Todd,s Mitcham (TM) peppermint within 2 to 3 weeks and from Scotch spearmint in 4 to 7 weeks.
