Geographic Perspective on the Meaning of Globalization

이 연구는 지리적 관점에서 글로벌화의 의미와 사례 검토를 시도하였다. 지리적 관점에서 볼 때, 글로벌화 현상은 장소의 경관과 스케일 개념을 통해 잘 이해될 수 있다. 글로벌 현상의 외양들은 경관론의 측면에서, 글로벌 현상의 역학과 과정에 관한 이해는 공간스케일의 측면에서 논의가 가능하다. 특히, 글로벌화라는 복합적인 사회현실의 역동적 이해는 공간스케일의 관계 국면 이해가 중요하다. 지리적 관점에서 볼 때, 글로벌화는 특정한 세상을 향해 통일적이고 단일한 모습으로 나아가는 과정이 아니다. 글로벌 세상은 매우 중층적이고 복합적인 구조로 현실세계가 얽히는 상황이다. 따라서, 글로벌 현상을 이해할 수 있는 개념 장치는 구체적인 현실 이해를 통해 지속적으로 단련이 되어야 할 대상이다. 글로벌화가 향후 더욱 일상화됨에 따라, 이론적이고 실천적인 개입의 전략화가 요망되고 있다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the meaning of globalization in the geographic perspective. In this perspective, we can understand the globalization by the concepts such as landscape and scale of place. Landscape concept can describe visible appearances of globalization and scale concept can explain the pattern and process of it. Specifically, we can utilize the concept of spatial scale for active understanding on multiple social reality as globaliztion. Geographers have a position that global world is dynamic situations of multi-level structures and traces of continual change. Therefore, we should have the process of refinement of concepts and an in-depth inquiry based on case studies.
