In this paper we give a theoretical justification for a student-centered learning (SCL). SCL is defined as a system of education, focusing on the unique personality of the teacher and the student, what is need for their self-expression and self-development. The practical part of the article presents several specific practices that lead to the achievement of this goal. At the initial stage, it can be expressed in "exercise-songs" based on the vocabulary of textbooks, conducting "lessons of puzzles", maintaining of personal register for every student with different kind of bonuses for the activity in the classroom, etc. In the middle stage it can be developed to the composition of stories using the given words, playing games etc. At the advanced stage it can be the organization of conversations, discussions, debates in reliance on specially designed short texts. Some of the proposed methods are new and original.
