The purpose of this study is to investigate how teachers’ specialization for primary English education is being put into use. A questionnaire was sent to primary school teachers who completed a master’s degree program or its coursework in primary English education of a graduate program in a teacher’s college of a national university. Forty-seven teachers’ written responses were analyzed as to the purpose of their pursuit of a graduate education in primary English education, the extent to which their specialization was put into use to teach English at school, the relationship between continued teaching opportunities and growth of teaching expertise, whether or not they wish to have opportunities to teach English, ways to provide teaching opportunities to more teachers. The results of the study show that while the majority of the teachers sought the graduate program in order to promote their abilities to teach English, they did not have teaching opportunities about half of the time; they believed that continued teaching opportunities led to increased expertise; most of them hoped to have opportunities to teach English; several suggestions were also made as to alternatives to provide teaching opportunities to more teachers.
