러스킨의 화폐와 생명 메타포 : 부의 창조

J.Ruskin’s Money and Life Metaphor : The Creation of Wealth

본 논문은 러스킨의 화폐론을 죽음과 생명의 메타포로 구성하여 화폐가 생명과 부의 형성에 어떻게 기여할 수 있는가를 고찰하는데 목적이 있다. 러스킨은 화폐를 채권과 채무의 관계 속에서 접근하여 정당한 노동의 대가를 지불하는 도덕적 기호와 윤리적 약속의 상징으로 본다. 화폐는 지배노동에 대한 청구권과 더불어 사회적 공동스토어에 대한 청구권이라는 개념에 근거하여, 러스킨은 밀과 리카도로 이어지는 고전파 경제학의 화폐 베일관과 패러다임에 정면으로 도전한다. 이러한 화폐접근은 오늘날 시장경제 화폐의 대안으로서 지역화폐, 기본소득과 사회신용론 등의 진보적 분배사상, 소비윤리와 접맥되어 현대자본주의 모순과 새로운 경제학 방법론에 미치고 있다.

The aim of this paper is to consider how money can contribute to building life and wealth through the foundation of Ruskin’s money theory. Ruskin who approaches money in the association between credit and debt, understands money as moral sign and symbol of ethical promise to pay legitimate costs of labor. Based on the claim for commanding labor as well as social common store of money, Ruskin’s theory has challenged the veil of money or the neutrality of money of classical economics conceptualized by JS.Mill and D.Ricardo. Today, Ruskin’s vision of money deeply influences various radical issues of distribution including local money(LETS), basic income guarantee and social credit as an alternative of current economic methodology which is contradicting modem capitalism.
