A New Development of Adoption Law

There are so many problems in the current adoption law of Korea provided as a part of the Civil Code. The adoption law was amended in February, 2012 to settle those problems. At first, this paper explains characteristics of the amendment which will come into effect on July 1, 2013. In Part 2, this paper examines the adoption law of Germany, Great Britain, France and Japan, and analyzes them comparatively together with Korean law. In Part 3, it examines the government permission system of adoption in detail under the amended Civil Code. It is the realization of the social welfare of adopted children and the expansion of government intervention into the adoption that the amended adoption law is going to aim at.
