김수영의 월평(月評)과 모더니티

The Criticism of Kim Soo-young and the Modernity - Focused on monthly review in <Sa Sang Gye> -

김수영은 1964년 『사상계』를 통해 본격적인 월평 작업을 시작하면서 비평가로서의 입지를 다진다. 월평 활동이 그의 시적 역량과 지성적 안목을 높이는 데 영향을 미치고 그의 시작(詩作) 발표 또한 스스로의 월평을 의식하면서 이루어졌기 때문에, 그 월평은 동시대 시인들의 작품을 통해 그의 시관을 세밀하게 반영한다는 점에서 중요하다. 무엇보다 1964년 『사상계』 월평의 특징은 모더니티 문제를 중심으로 이루어진다는 것이다. 김수영에게 모더니티의 추구는 서구문학(세계문학)과의 동시성을 이루는 일이며, 당대 사회에 대한 구체적인 현실감을 획득하는 것이라 할 수 있다. 그는 전월 발표된 주요 작품들의 분석을 통해 모더니티 접근의 성과를 평하고 한국 시단 현실에 시급한 대응책을 제시하였다. 모더니티의 주조 과정으로 감각적 묘사와 진술시의 시도를 제안하면서도, ‘사상’의 여과를 거친 발언이 필요하며 그 기저에 ‘신념’이 숨 쉬어야 한다고 하였다. 이는 김수영이 시에서의 ‘양심’의 개념과 연결되는데, 그것은 내용 없는 ‘기술’ 혹은 ‘기법’, 형태를 갖추지 못한 거친 ‘발언’ 혹은 ‘진술’과 대별되는, 사심 없는 정신의 작용이자 동시대의 현실성과 시적 진정성의 표출이며 그가 특수하게 의미화한 모더니티라 할 수 있다.

In 1964, Kim Soo-young strengthened his position as a critic by monthly reviews publishing in <Sa Sang Gye>. The monthly reviews had an affect on not only his capability of poetry but also developing his ability to look at intelligence. Furthermore, as Kim Soo-young issued his poetry with the awareness of his monthly reviews by himself, these reviews have the importance to show a concrete view of poetry looking through the other poet's works. The distinct feature of the monthly review by <Sa Sang Gye> is to carry the modernity as the main subject. The pursuit of Modernity meant the achievements of simultaneity with western literature(World literature) and detailed reality beyond statement poetry to him. By criticizing the works published in past month, Kim Soo-young evaluated performance of modernity and suggested urgent alternative for the world of poetry in Korea. He suggested that for the development of Modernity, developing the statement poetry rather than technique experiment should put the first. To actualize it, Kim Soo-young said that you need statements going through filtering out consciousness and a belief should exist at the base. It is related to the concept of conscience from his poems, expressing the urgency and authenticity for a contemporary reality without ulterior motive and it can be defined as the specialized modernity.
