This study aims to investigate achievements and projects of British and American philosophy of education. Philosophy of education has been founded through long time history since people began education and thought of what a good education was. However, British and American philosophers of education, since the early twentieth century, have contributed to found philosophy of education as a systematic independent science with a method and an unique academic field. This study explores academic achievements of pragmatism, analytic philosophy of education, liberalism and communitarianism, critical pedagogy and multicultural educational theories as representative British and American philosophy of education. In addition, this study shows a direction of British and American philosophy of education in the basis of its urgent problems. British and American philosophy of education, first, should try to relate theories with educational practices. Second, it should broaden its horizon in time and space so that it may deal with diverse historical thoughts and various cultural contexts. Third, it should try various academic methods as well as analytic approach because philosophy of education is concerned with human beings who have multiple characters.
