The existence of small clauses (NP-Predicate sequence as a constituent) has been rather controversial: there are arguments for and against the postulation of the SC in the English grammar. In this paper, we discuss phenomena where the NP-Predicate sequence forms a constituent and accept the view that English employs the SC as the complement of verbs like imagine, in the absolute construction, the SAl(subject-auxiliary inversion) construction, and so forth.
