정신장애인의 사회적 기능과 역량강화의 관계에서 사회적 지지의 매개효과에 관한 연구

A Study on the Influence of Social Functioning on the Empowerment of persons with Psychiatric Disabilities: Mediating Effect of Social Support

본 연구의 목적은 정신장애인의 역량강화 수준에 영향을 미치는 요인 중 전통적인 재활모델의 주요 개입목표인 ‘사회적 기능’과 사회모델의 주요 개입목표인 ‘사회적 지지’간의 관계를 살펴보고, 사회적 기능과 역량강화의 관계에서 사회적 지지의 매개효과를 검증하는 것이다. 조사대상자는 서울지역의 정신보건센터, 사회복귀시설을 이용하는 203명의 정신장애인이었으며, 매개효과를 검증하기 위해 구조방정식 모형을 사용하였다. 주요 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 먼저 정신장애인의 사회적 기능이 높을수록 역량강화 수준이 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 사회적 기능과 역량강화의 관계에 사회적 지지를 매개변인으로 설정할 경우 사회적 기능이 역량강화에 미치는 직접적인 영향은 통계적으로 유의하지 않았다. 즉, 사회적 지지가 사회적 기능과 역량강화의 관계를 완전 매개하는 것으로 분석되었다. 이러한 결과는 정신장애인의 사회적 기능이 사회적 지지의 매개를 통해서만 역량강화에 영향을 미치고 있음을 보여주는 것으로 향후 역량강화 실천에 있어 개인의 기능에 초점을 둔 개입보다 정신장애인과 관련한 사회적 지지환경에 중점을 둘 필요성이 제기된다. 이와 같은 결과를 바탕으로 정신장애인 역량강화 실천의 방향성에 대한 다양한 함의를 제시하였다.

This study was performed to investigate the mediating effects of social support of the relationship between social functioning and empowerment of persons with psychiatric disabilities. Data for analysis was collected from 203 persons with psychiatric disabilities using the community mental health service. Mediating effects of social support variable was tested using structured equation modeling by Baron & Kenny(1986)'s three assumptions and bootstrap test. The results of this study were as follows. Empowerment was positively related social functioning when it was to the simple model(structure equation model 1) without mediating factors. However, with social support included in the models(structure equation model 2) as mediating factor, the direct effect of social functioning on empowerment was not significant. In the mediating model, social functioning influenced on social support, and this influenced on empowerment. That is to say, social support had a perfect mediating effect between social functioning and empowerment. As a result of this research, comprehensive implications were suggested for improving empowerment of persons with psychiatric disabilities.
