A Study on the Effects of Disimilarity of Rule of Origin of Korea Free Trade Agreement

This study was measured by instituting the concept of dissimilarity index which was derived from criteria for the determination of origin. The measured dissimilarity index indicates the number of criteria for the determination of origin which is hold in specific items by simplifying assortatively. Through this work, it could be analysed how many criteria for the determination of origin of Korea FTA has dissimilar regulations in substance. The result of measurement for the main 100 item of export in Korean small and medium-sized business showed that increase of the number of FTA induced the increase of dissimilarity index and the result of six FTAs which were came into effect before 2012 appeared that one item had 4.66 criteria for the determination of origin on average. Therefore, it could be inferred from those kinds of results that the increase of the number of FTA augments dissimilar criteria for the determination of origin and the burden of the cost for satisfying and the procedure is in existence. In this study, for measuring the dissimilarity of criteria for the determination of origin, a new measurement method was introduced inevitably. However, it could not be analyze how the increase of criteria for the determination of origin namely, the increase of dissimilarity index influenced actual export-import increase. Because FTAs have came into effect just for several years and a lot of factors excluding criteria for the determination of origin can influence trade with foreign nations.
