An Analysis Container Ports' Concentration in Pan Yellow Sea Region

In this paper, we aim to analyze the concentration of container ports in Pan Yellow Sea Region. To achieve the research purpose, we apply the combined methodology which consists of hirshmann-herfindalh index (HHI), boston consulting group matrix (BCG matrix), and shift effect (SE). The HHI results show that the deconcentration is gradually increasing since there were changes of liner shipping networks in the regions. In the static matrix analysis, it was obtained that the Chinese ports had the highest competitive advantage, Korean ports had a middle level ranking, and Japanese ports had the weakest position. The dynamics matrix represents that the overall ports have experienced a slowdown in terms of their growth rate. It also can be founded that a zero-sum competition exists among the container ports in Pan Yellow Sea Region.
