HRD Professional’s Roles and Competencies in the Age of Web 2.0

Despite for the increased educational application of Web 2.0, the discussion about how to apply the Web 2.0 in HRD field is scarce. Especially, there are much needs for HRD professional’s roles and competencies in Web 2.0 learning environment. However, few studies have explored the competencies. Thus, this study first, explored educational characteristics of Web 2.0 technologies. Also, implications of Web 2.0 from HRD perspectives was also examined. Finally, HRD professional’s roles and competencies were suggested. Findings shows that HRD professional’s roles can be changed depending on situational needs. Enhanced HRD professional`s competencies in Web 2.0 age are suggested in three competency domains: interpersonal competency, business/management competency, and personal competency. Implications about HRD professional’s roles and competencies are suggested.
