Art makeup is an art field, requiring creative senses and innovative thinking. This curriculum is aimed to help students build thinking abilities and enhance competence by breaking stereotypes. It requires convergent thinking abilities and diverse skills. However, design education has not been properly given in most art makeup courses in the Department of Cosmetology in colleges. Therefore, this study has investigated the current status of art makeup and design education and performed a questionnaire survey on the importance, usability, problems, and improvement of design education. According to the survey, students were highly aware of the importance of an art makeup course. They also knew that no systematic design-related courses have been available. When asked about design education, its importance was well-understood in all three groups. In terms of problems and improvement, the ‘absence of design conception and idea-related education’ has been mentioned. In addition, it appears that if a design education curriculum is established, it could be available in all three groups. Therefore, it is necessary to come up with a design education system which can help students build their competence and skills. In addition, it would be necessary to improve the quality of education for nurturing art makeup specialists.
