This study has attempted to analyze changes in the ginyeo (officially sanctioned Korean female entertainers) tremeori (up-style) among hairstyles which play an important role in forming personal image. To adequately understand hairstyles during the Joseon period, this study has investigated the characteristics of up-styles during the Joseon period through analysis of literature records, genre painting and previous studies. According to analysis of the components of hairstyles, the ginyeo hairstyle has a dynamic feature which emphasizes a certain direction. In particular, its asymmetrical structure represents individual personality. According to analysis of the formative characteristics of the hairstyle from a modern perspective, the up-style was distinctive in length, width and depth. In terms of the structure of the hairstyle, large and small points in both soft and rough textures were repeatedly weaved in using braiding techniques, and a long straight line was formed. The hair was then rolled to make a beautiful, rich curve. In fact, the bun itself was very aesthetic thanks to a large scale and gorgeous patterning. Based on the contemporary and cultural background of ginyeo and the development of beard-hair style during the Joseon period, the myeongbu hairstyle developed in symmetry. Development in the ginyeo hairstyle has also been confirmed in this study.
