David Herbert Lawrence's famous novel Sons and Lovers seems to be a kind of the realistic record of the author's growing up from childhood to manhood Though many scholars proved partly the close relationship between the novel and Lawrence's personal life, no paper explicates the relationship concretely and fully. Author's personal life and his family history are interwoven in the novel, though some of the episodes are depicted as they were and some of them are fictionalized. The names of the characters and accidents are mostly based on the author's real life. Most of the places and the surroundings of the novel have the same characteristics of Lawrence's hometown. That is the reason we can conclude that Sons and Lovers is a novel which depicts the author's growing up.
