Criminal Victimization, Neighborhood Integration, and the Fear of Crime : in Depth Interview on 15 University Students

This Study searches the cause of the fear of crime through the depth interview on 15 university students. Generally, the fear of crime is explained by four model-victimization model, social and physical disorders model, neighborhood integration model, and formal social control model. This study approaches the fear of crime on the bases of these four theoretical model. The Result of analysis on this qualitative data shows that the factors supported by victimization model and neighborhood integration model had more stronger effects than the those supported social and physical disorders model and formal social control model. Specially, our qualitative data didn't support social and physical disorders model. It is supposed that disorganized areas-represented with Broken Windows-rarely are in Korea.
