It has often been pointed out that people's experiences of victimization and contact with the criminal justice system may have some effects, negatively or positively, on public perception of the criminal justice system. In this study, using a multi-stage stratified random sampling method, a nationally representative sample of about 2,000 respondents residing in seven major cities in Korea were interviewed to find out what influences experiences of crime victimization and contact with the criminal justice system may have on people's confidence in the criminal justice system. Overall, the above mentioned two factors seem to have negative impact on public perception of the criminal justice system in Korea. And differential impacts of two factors on the level of public confidence for each criminal justice system are examined. Finally, policy implications of major findings for the administration of justice system are also discussed.
