This study examines the moderating effect of protective factors on behavioral maladjustment of middle and high school students in urban and rural areas, who have been experiencing domestic violence directly or indirectly, and the differences between urban and rural areas in the protective factors and delinquency and school violence. As a result, first the difference of residential area did not show the significant differences in direct experience of domestic violence but show the indirect experience. The youth live in rural area experienced more indirect domestic violence. Second, in rural area the youth, who have direct-indirect experiences, show more behavioral maladjustment such as delinquency and school violence. Third, there are differences in the areas in analysis of the delinquency and school violence according to the experience of abuse and violence. Fourth, in urban area the protective factors reduce school violence among the youth. Especially positivism reduces delinquency greatly. In rural area, the protective factors did show much effect.
