Experience of foreign wives who have been abused by their family

The purpose of this study has focused on deeply understanding their voice in the perspective of experience of foreign wives have been abused by their family. For this, An in-depth interview was held individually with question of "how is the essence of experience of abused by their family and meaning of it? Data were collected by semi-structured interview documents. The participants for this study were abused victims by their family. The participants consist of 8 foreign wives from Cambodia, Philippines, China, Mongolia, Vietnam. The Colaizzi analysis of phenomenological research was applied. The study has derived 6 categories including sub-categories about abused experience that described by interview. The experience of foreign wives were analyzed into "welcome stranger(economic isolation, unrecognized, excessive participation)", "untrustworthy husband(alcohol and violence problem, maladaptive behavior, self defence in the minimum, abnormal sexuality, unfamiliar others)", "diversity of domestic violence and its real state(verbal, emotional, physical violence, violence by in-law)", "disability to cope with domestic violence(ignorance to cope with, unconditional patience, poor help system)", "leave scars(physical, psychological aftereffect, depression and attempted suicide, negative effect to their children, irresponsible attitude)", "gloomy future(decide to divorce, uneasy married life, escape to shelter, opscurity of future)". Based on these results, the implications and suggestions of this study are discussed about specific intervention(psychotherapy, aid to victim) and prevention strategy for foreign wives with have been abused by family.
