The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the recidivism of physical violence of batterers and mental health of battered women after BIP(Batterer Intervention Program). As method, a self-report telephone survey was completed by victimized women for three times. 116 women answered at time 1(9 months after BIP), 76 answered at time 2(14 months), 56 answered at time 3(19 months). Frequency analysis and F-test were conducted to identify the phenomenon. Results show that the recidivism of physical violence, emotional violence, control, depression, and suicidal idea were decreased, though the indicators were still high level at time 1. However, self-efficacy, aggression, and positive communication between family menbers (TSL: Thank, Sorry, Love) were not significantly improved. Based on these findings, we suggest implications for BIP. First, follow up case management for not only batterers but also victims after they return to their wedlock is needed, especially at early stage of return. Second, BIPs are needed to be improved, especially the idea that non-physical assault such as emotional violence and marital control are harmful to women is to be educated to batterers. At last, therapeutic family programs which emphasize basic and positive communication between family members are needed to be imposed to restore the family functions.
