서부영화 <3:10 투 유마>에 나타난 성장 서사와 트릭스터

이 연구는 인간의 성장에 트릭스터가 미치는 영향 및 작용하는 방식을 주제로 한다. 트릭스터는 원시 신화들로부터 유래한 존재인데, 자신의 원초적 욕구에 따라 움직이고 혼란을 초래하는 인물이다. 또한 사회적 질서에 편입되지 않고, 선과 악의 구분을 초월한 혼돈과 무질서 상태에서 떠도는 인물이다. 그러므로 그의 주된 속성은 경계성이라 할 수 있다. 이는 통과제의에서의 중간 단계와도 밀접한 연관을 지니고 있다. 그런 점에서 트릭스터와 성장 서사의 관련성을 짐작할 수 있다. 따라서 이 연구는 영화 속에서 트릭스터적 역할을 수행하는 캐릭터를 찾아 그 캐릭터가 주동인물의 성장에 영향을 미치는 방식을 조사하였다. 먼저 영웅의 여정 도식에 따라 서부영화 <3:10 투 유마>를 분석하고 이 영화 속의 트릭스터 캐릭터에 대해 살펴보았다. 무법자 벤 웨이드는 악당임이 분명하지만, 영화 속에서 그가 수행하는 역할은 주인공의 적대자가 아니라 트릭스터이다. 이 트릭스터 캐릭터는 주동인물인 댄 에반스와 그의 아들 윌리엄에게 변화와 대립과 욕망의 중개자로 기능함으로써 두 사람의 성장을 이끌었다.

This paper is on the question whether the tricksters concern people's growing and how they affects people's development. The trickster is a special character derived from primitive mythology. He acts on primitive desire, wanders in disorder, causes chaos. He does not fit into the social norm even the opposition between good and evil. In this respect, the fundamental feature of trickster is liminality. Liminality is continuous with the middle period in rites of passage. So we can get an idea of &#8203;&#8203;the relevance between the epic of growth and the trickster. Therefor this research has focused on the trickster character among the films and looked into the role of the character in certain film. Analyzing the western film "3:10 to Yuma" according to the hero's journey flot was productive. Ben Wade the outlaw is certainly a bad man but his role as a character in this film is not a villain against a hero. He is the trickster character to provoke the main character's progression in a way of raising a disturbance. We could find out the functions of thins character as a mediator. The trickster character used to be a complex mediator of transition, opposition and also desire.
