초등영어교육에서 창의성의 의미

As creativity is considered to be a key component in having a successful life in the 21st century, it has become a growing area of interest within school education in Korea. The present study is conceptual research inquiring into how creativity might be understood and realized within the subject dimensions of primary English education. It first reviews works on the definition of creativity, and then overviews past and current research on ‘language and creativity’, ‘creativity and education’, and ‘L2 learning and creativity’. It then proposes that creativity in the subject of English should be defined not as creative thinking ability but as sociolinguistic and strategic competence within the communicative competence framework, which is in accordance with the objectives of primary English education.
