이사벨라의 선택의 의미

In Measure for Measure, Isabella has to answer the requests from the men, first Angelo (and Claudio), then the Duke. Both imply Isabella's sexual surrender, but she insists to keep her chastity. She does not follow the wide-spread immoral as well as illegal convention in Vienna, even though it results in her brother's (false) death. Many critics consider Isabella's decision to assist the Duke's bed-trick wired and evil, but it can be regarded as the last solution that a future-nun can choose without disgracing her chastity. Judging from her effort to keep her identity, Isabella is neither egoistic nor unreasonable as many critics said, rather she is very confident and strong- willed so she may emasculate the Duke's intention to marry (to take) her.
