대학 내 영어전용공간 운용에 관한 사례연구

This Study aims to delineate the actual use of English-only zone called "English Cafe" at a major university in Seoul. Questionnaires with 86 students, focus-group interviews with 41 students, researcher's observation on students' classroom participation, and her teaching journal were analyzed. The results showed that students wanted to use "English Cafe" as a place for studying English holistically. In accordance with their needs, five different study groups were organized and operated by students with the help from the professor and students' public speech was also given once a month on average. By and large, students who participated in these programs were very satisfied with the program. However, considering the professor's working overload and the necessity of sustainable financial support, this kind of program should be carefully examined before the start. The findings of this study are expected to improve the quality of English education in "out of classroom" contexts in a more practical way.
