세계화: 이론적 재조망

Globalization From a Theoretical Perspective

탈냉전으로 급가속된 세계화는 이 현상에 대한 이론도 그에 걸맞게 엄청나게 양산되었다. 20여 년 동안 급속도로 진행된 세계화는 초기의 긍정적인 부푼 꿈에서 부정적인 견해와 이에 대한 절충의 이론적 논의를 거듭하고 있다. 이러한 시점에 세계화의 이론적인 측면의 중심흐름을 정리해보고 향후과제를 살펴보는 것은 의미 있는 일이라 할 수 있다. 따라서 세계화의 정의, 기본개념의 문제점과 이론적 상황과 세계화의 초기이론을 주도했던 월러스틴(I. Wallerstein)의 <세계체계이론>의 핵심논리와 비판, 세계화의 3개 학파(hyperglobalists, skeptical school, transformationalist school)의 주장과, 주요이론가들의 세계화에 대하여 공통적으로 동의하는 것과 동의치 않는 관점들을 존스(A. Jones 2012)를 통하여 살펴보고 향후의 논의 점들을 제시한다.

By adopting a theoretical perspective, this paper aims to review the past, present, and, future ‘globalization’ more systematically and to help the reader appreciate the mainstream and fundamentals of its development since the 1950s more clearly. This paper tries to examine the definition, the basic concepts of ‘globalization’ and their problems and also the theoretical developments by explaining the main ideas of Wallerstein’s “World Systems Analysis” which is famous for the fundamentals and theoretical frame work for the developmental processes of “globalization” since the 16th century. We explain the 3 major schools - hyperglobalists, skeptical school, and transformationalist school - after Wallerstein’s great work with critics. Finally we suggest several topics for further study as a conclusion.
