‘테크놀로지’(Technology)의 교육학적 전망

Educational Perspective on ‘Technology’

역사적으로 ‘과학기술’의 융합개념인 ‘테크놀로지’(technology)는 ‘과학’과 ‘기술’이라는 단일영역 간의 단순한 합으로 치부되어 왔다. 테크놀로지의 교육 역시 마찬가지였다. 그러나 우리는 본 논문에서 ‘융합’(融合)은 ‘단일의 단순한 합의 이상’(以上)이라는 사실을 밝혀냈다. 따라서 테크놀로지라는 융합개념은 과학과 기술의 합(合) 이상이며, 과학과 기술보다 먼저인 전체다. 여기서 본 연구는 우리는 융합이란 물리적 결합이나 연결이 아닌, ‘화학적 융합’을 의미함을 밝혀냈다. 결국 오늘날 테크놀로지의 세계는 과학과 기술이 융합되는 과정에서 새롭게 탄생하고 진화하고 있다. 이 과정에서 결정적인 역할을 하는 것이 바로 인간의 ‘상상력’(imagination)이다. 이것이 바로 테크놀로지라는 ‘기술과 과학 간의 결합’을 ‘화학적 융합’으로 가능하게 하는 아교질이 된다. 이렇게 본다면, 결국 테크놀로지의 교육학적 전망은 - 부분으로서의 이성교육도 아니고, 부분으로서의 경험교육도 아닌 전체로서의 - ‘상상력 교육’의 성패에 달려 있다고 할 수 있다.

Historically, the concept of technology which means the convergence of ‘science’ and ‘technique’ has been regarded as a simple sum of science and technique. Education of technology has been also understood in such a context. However, this paper made it clear that the convergence must be more than a simple sum or plus. Such a ‘more’ means the area of imagination which plays a critical role in combining science with technique. This principle matches with the scientific nature of hermeneutics. The whole is not the sum of parts, but the more than parts. And the whole is given first before all parts. Thus, all parts begin with the whole. According to the hermeneutic plan, humane imagination is more than the sum of parts (reason, experience) and imagination as a whole is already given before all parts. In result the convergent concept of technology is more than the sum of science and technique both parts and technology is already given first and foremost. Today the world of technology is being newly created and evolving by converging of science and technique. In this process humane imagination plays a critical role, which acts as glue to makes the combination of technique and science into the chemical convergence. In this aspect, educational perspective of technology lies on - neither reason education as a part, nor experience education as a part - imagination education as a whole.
