A Study of China's Chongqing Logistics Industry and the Yuxinou Railway System

One of the most notable policy changes in China's economic development has been the shift to China's western region, formally known as the Western Development Project. As a result, scores of global companies have been relocating or establishing major presence, leading to huge expansion of manufacturing and trade, which in turn gave rise to rapid economic growth in the western regions. At the center of such transformation is the city of Chongqing, which has not only become the region's most important market but also promises to become the most critical transportation hub, particularly its rail system. This study provides an overview of the Chongqing economy and examines its prospects from a logistics perspective. Specifically, this paper provides an indepth look - employing a SWOT analysis - at the newly established Yuxinou Railway system built to handle the massive expansion of trade, particularly with Europe.
