다문화 교육 연구를 위한 탈식민주의 이론의 역할과 가능성

The roles and possibilities of postcolonialism for multicultural educational research

본 연구는 “ 다문화” 의 이념이 효과적으로 우리 사회에 잘 적용되고 접목될 수 있는 교육적 실천 전략으로서 “탈식 민주의 담론” 을 탐구하였다. 이에 연구문제로서 우리가 접하는 다양한 텍스트들(학교교과서, 잡지, 매스컴, 의사소통, 문헌들 등)을 분석하고, 나아가 비평할 수 있는 탈식민적 분석의 준거를 개발하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 연구의 배경적 지식이자 방법적 배경으로서 두 개의 연구영역에 대한 이론적 논의를 시도하였다. 첫째, 다문화교육 연구에서는 여러 학자들의 주장을 통하여 다문화/다문화교육의 가장 중요한 전제이자 기준은 문화적 다양성과 공존을 강조한다는 접을 논의하였다. 둘째 탈식민주의 이론에서는 다문화/다문화교육을 위한 관점과 다문화교육의 한 가지 이론적 탐구영역으로서 탈식민주의에 대하여 살펴보았다. 연구의 결과로서, 다문화적 텍스트를 규명하고 비평할 수 있는 방법적 전략으로서 네가지의 탈식민 비평의 준거를 개념화시켰다: (1) 주체와 타자의 구성, (2) 포함과 배제, (3) 목소리의 침묵，(4) 재식민화의 내러티브, 이러한 개념들 또는 기준들은 단순히 어떤 문화적 메시지 또는 결과들이 서구적이라든지, 아니면 비서구적이라는지 추상적인 수준에서 폄하하는 대신에 보다 구체적인 일련의 기준들에 기초하여 서구적/비서적인 것으로 평가할 수 있게 만들 것이다.

Korean educational researchers have recently attempted to theorize and practice the idea of multiculturalism, Under this new research trend, authors try to use the discourse of postcolonialsim as new theoretical base to expand and advance region of multicultural discourse in South Korea, In this effort, there is a premise that Eurocentrism has been imbedded in every aspect of our lives since Korean War, and may play negative role in accepting and applying the idea of multiculturalsim which emphsaizes the rights, interets, and respects of all races and ethnicities. Within this perspective, authors developed four criteria from postcolonial discourse and literatures as a way of discovering, analyzing, and assessing the implicit presumption and interests of Eurocentrism in our lives. in particualry, cultural texts. The results are as follows: (1) Construction of Subject/Other: (2) Inclusing vs. Exclusion: (3) Silenced voice of subaltern; and (4) Narratives of re-colonization. In Each critira, more specific questions have been produced and identifeid, which will enable educational researchrs to analyze historical, educational, and cultural texts such as school textbooks, mass-media, propaganda, public magagizes. Authors propose that more new criteria should be developed in the future, and also, the possible ideas of roles of postcolonialsim in advancing multicultural education in South Korea will be discussed.
