The effects of TOEIC study using smartphone TOEIC applications on learners’ TOEIC scores and perception at university level

The present study investigated the effects of using smartphone TOEIC applications on TOEIC scores and the perception of the participants at university level. Twenty participants took a pre-mock-TOEIC test, and then studied TOEIC outside of the classroom using smartphone TOEIC applications which were provided by the researcher for 11 weeks. This practice was a part of the course as an assignment. After this, they took a post-mock-TOEIC test and answered a questionnaire. The mean scores of the post tests on both TOEIC L/C and R/C increased, but only the mean of R/C was statistically significant. Most of the participants responded positively about the use of smartphone TOEIC applications for their TOEIC study. Regarding the applications, the ‘Daily Contents’ of the TOEIC applications were highly recommended for its simple and condensed contents. As there were only a few number of participants, the results could not be generalized but could be used only for future research guidance.
